Position Details

  • Pay: $40,332 - $91,767
  • Schedule: Shift work determined by the airport (includes nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, extended shifts, and split shifts)

  • Drug Test: Yes (including random testing after hire)

Role Overview

As a TSO, you will:

  • Operate screening technology to identify prohibited items in baggage, cargo, and on passengers
  • Conduct thorough screenings, which include pat-downs and property searches
  • Lift/carry bins, bags, and property weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Manage terminal entry/exit points and provide guidance to travelers
  • Maintain focus in high-pressure environments with time constraints and distractions
  • Follow established TSA procedures and adapt to ongoing updates

Minimum Qualifications (Meet One)

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED/HiSET/TASC)
  • Experience: 1 year of full-time experience in security, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician (paid, unpaid, and volunteer experiences count; part-time experience is credited proportionally)

Requirements to Be Hired

  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. National
  • At least 18 years old at the time of application
  • Must pass the TSA computer-based test (CBT)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Hiring Process

If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will be required to take the TSA computer-based test (TAB CBT). This timed exam assesses your attention to detail, X-ray/object recognition, and reading comprehension, with a passing score significantly increasing your chances of being hired.
